Thank you all so very much for your generosity and for your support of my wonderful students. The materials arrived last week and we've been putting them to good use!!! The smiley face pads were used as a reward for those students who earned top marks on the fall semester midterm examination.
The No. 2 mechanical pencils were used on the bubble answer keys for the multiple choice section (50%) of the midterm exam.
The easel sized graph post-it paper and colorful sharpies were used in today's fun activity. We are covering linear regression and learning about influential points and points with high residuals. Each of 7 groups started with the same original set of points. Every group graphed those points and found both the least-squares regression line "LSRL" and the correlation coefficient "r". Next, each group added a different 'unusual point' and found new LSRL and r. The students took a gallery walk to see the results of the other groups. Finally, each group presented their findings and we summarized as a group. All in all, we had a fun time and a very educational experience in which the students discovered the lesson on their own.
Thank you for providing our class with the tools to conduct a creative student-centered lesson.
