From the Teacher

I wanted to express our Thanks for your generous donation toward our "Portrait Tile Project!"

Your kind gift made it possible to purchase the remaining supplies of clay and glazes to begin our "Portrait Tile Project." This project will give almost every student in our elementary school the ability to express themselves through clay. Many of our students have never had the opportunity to create with clay. When the material arrived, I told te students all the boxes full of clay indexes were donated, they were blown away. They thought that was the "coolest" thing ever!

As the school Art Teacher, I often have to be very creative in repurposing recycled goods that could be made into an art project. Our school is located in a very high need neighborhood, so often times there is little money in our budget to purchase anything but very basic supplies. Because of Donors Choose our paths have crossed and your gift has already begun touching the hands of children who are eager to explore and make beautiful art! As you can see in our photographs tiles have begun being hung.

Our "Portrait Tile Project" is an ongoing project that will be a permanent installation on our school's main hallway. I explain to my classes that these tiles are a way of each student leaving a small bit of themselves for future generation to enjoy.....it's their legacy!

From the bottom of my heart and the hearts of 600 elementary students...."Thank You!" Your kindness to us will be paid forward.
