Wide-Notch Cardboard Looms - Pkg of 12, 13" x 13" (8)

From the Teacher

The students of Mayflower Elementary are so excited to begin using their new weaving materials! Our students will be using their new cardboard looms and colorful yarn to learn the warp and weft method of weaving! We will be creating fabricated pieces using this method in a variety of styles so that we can learn more about cultures around the world and the patterns, colors, symbols, and styles of weaving they use!

The kids were so excited when they saw the looms and were so very interested right away. They especially loved all the spools of colorful yarn lined up rows. Their eyes lit up and they thought it was the most beautiful kind of rainbow they had ever seen! They are so very thankful and they still don't quite understand how such sweet strangers could give them money to be able to have such nice art making materials!

Kindergarten through Fourth grade will be studying textile arts from all over the world. We will be examining textiles from Native Americans in North America, have a special focus in South America with the following areas: Peru, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and Brazil, and explore textile arts in Europe with the Tartan style. Students will also be able to look at how art can be functional through clothing like in Japan and China. We will even look at saris from India and Persian rugs! This will be a great multicultural experience for the students and will be especially fun since it is so hands on!

With gratitude,
Mrs. Thibodeaux
